Abhind - From Kolkata

Abhind is a jazz trio founded by its bassist Pierre-Antoine Lasnier who creates original compositions to express his inner feelings and his journey through life from France to India. The band is composed of Shonai on the piano and Aniruddh Saha on the drums. Abhind's music is multiple and cannot be reduced to a single format or a particular shape as it is the description of an around the world urney. It transcribes the multiplicity of life, emotions, people and places with a documentary shape through sounds. The first album of Abhind, "From Kolkata" represents the first part of the depiction of this journey. Even though Pierre-Antoine Lasnier is actually from Paris, France, the compositions where made in the capital of Bengal in India and find their roots in this city. They are the description of the first part of the journey and its conclusion. The music of Abhind is actually of the modal jazz genre, but because of its history it has strong connection with India it can be describes as Indian Jazz without being a fusion of any kind.

I started his musical journey at the age of five with the flute in Western Classical Music as a primary instrument. At the age of fourteen I shifted to my present instrument, Electric Bass Guitar. Currently I reside in Kolkata since the last three years and I am studying Hindustani Classical music under the guidance of my Guru Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya who is a world famous slide guitarist. I am mixing my various influences and knowledges in order to create new music and emotions through my instrument. However I believe that music cannot be reduced to itself in order to understand it and transcribe it into reality. One has to know more to see further and beyond to truly develop the art of sound. So in addition to my musical studies, I have spent a lot of time studying the human sciences and I went on to obtain a degree in History and a master in Sociology during which I studied in particular Techno and Electronic music with their respective cultures. My passion for abolishing borders between the arts pushed me to create music for ciné-concert, visual arts, live performance acts and bands.
The result of that journey of pushing borders more and more further is creating what I call the Abstract Hindustani Music. In other words I am using my deep knowledge of Western and Indian music with those related to human sciences to develop a unique journey into sounds, that describes and personifies Humans and their emotions. In addition of being a creator and a blender between worlds, cultures and arts, I am also an educator and a promoter of music and the relation between various cultures.
